Frequently asked questions
Rewrite both fractions over a common denominator, then add the numerators. For example, 1/2 + 1/3 becomes 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6. This calculator does that automatically — enter the two fractions, choose +, and it shows both the working and the simplified result.
It divides the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 10/8 has a GCD of 2, so it simplifies to 5/4 — shown as the mixed number 1 1/4 and the decimal 1.25.
Yes — numerators and denominators can be negative, and you can enter a whole number as a fraction over 1 (e.g. 3 = 3/1). The sign of the result is always shown on the numerator.
