Frequently asked questions
Take your target grade, subtract your current grade multiplied by everything the final is not worth, then divide by the final's weight. For example, with an 88% going into a final worth 20%, an overall 90% needs (90 − 88 × 0.8) ÷ 0.2 = 98% on the final. The second mode above does this for A, B, C, and D at once.
Multiply each category's score by its weight, add those together, then divide by the total weight. Homework at 90% worth 20% and a midterm at 80% worth 30% gives (90 × 20 + 80 × 30) ÷ 50 = 84%.
That is normal mid-semester, and the tool handles it — it divides by the weight you have actually entered, so you get your grade on the work graded so far. It also shows how much weight is still outstanding.
A common US scale where 93% is an A, 90% an A-, 83% a B, and so on. Grading scales genuinely vary between schools and even between instructors, so treat the letter as a guide and check your syllabus for the exact cutoffs.
